While Copley Library closes its doors for the winter break from December 21, 2013 through January 1, 2014, we have many resources  you can enjoy wherever you are.  Take a quick stroll through the library website and you will be surprised at how the library can enhance your holiday from afar!

Feel like watching some classic plays on video?  Why not try our Theatre in Video titles, which include over 250 recordings of “definitive performances of the world’s leading plays”.  You can watch Olivier direct and perform in Chekhov’s Three Sisters or enjoy the tension between barstool customers at the Last Chance Saloon in the 1973 adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh.  Want to see William Shatner’s role as an Army prosecutor of Civil War crimes?  Check out The Andersonville Trial to see his vivid performance during a break in his Star Trek filming.  To see other titles in the Theatre in Video library resource, click here.

For opera lovers, have we got a holiday treat for you!  From Hansel and Gretel to Doctor Atomic, there are opera videos in the library catalog to match any taste.  Want to stick with something a little more traditional?  Try Mozart’s Le Nozze Di Figaro or Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde.  Our Opera in Video collection has over 500 hours of some of the best opera performances of the 20th century.  You can even stream these videos to your mobile device by clicking this icon  cellphone on the streaming video page.

Want to listen to some great classical music while you write your Christmas thank you notes?  Copley Library provides access to the most comprehensive collection of classical music available online through our link to Naxos Music Library.  From this resource, you can make selections based on composer, artist or even keyword (try “holiday classics” if nothing else!).  With a little bit of effort, you can create your own playlist and have hours’ worth of soothing background music while you do your holiday work!

Copley Library has lots more to enhance your holiday downtime!  Pick your pleasure and explore our resources – and have a great break!

See you back in the building in 2014!
