The Copley Library Blog Turns Two!

two-year

The Copley Library blog turns 2 years-old this month! This blog began in mid-April 2013 as a space where we could document workshops, resources (from databases to special collections), and provide updates about services and special hours.

With this blog we also promote library events, highlight databases, and services. We have shared about librarians’ conference presentations and introduced new librarians and staff with short biographies. Some of the blogposts have been complete lessons for our readers, such as the post exploring and thoroughly explaining fair use (“Can I Copy this Image without Permission: A Picture of ‘Fair Use) to the new ‘Copley Library’s Partnership with Hoehn Print Study Room (click on the links to see the complete posts). This blog also contains posts about most of the major Catholic holidays such as the Immaculate Conception, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, and Easter.

April is traditionally a busy month at Copley. Students and faculty are preparing for finals and the library is winding down its workshop series. We currently have an annual event, the Digital Initiatives Symposium (DIS) held at the end of April. This year Copley Library along with UCSD Libraries and SDSU Library are hosting the 2015 ALADN Conference.

Discover the diversity of our posts by taking a quick peek at our very first post about the newly digitized special collection ‘The San Diego College for Women Postcard Collection and don’t forget to click around to other months to find out more about the library.

Pardon Our Dust!

Copley Library’s first major construction project in recent memory went underway March 23 and is slated to end this weekend. Although the project is a minor carpet revamp, the new flooring will be a boon for the library. After years of use, our most heavily used carpet areas are being replaced. These areas include the front entryway, the hallway to the Mother Hill Reading Room, and the main stairs leading to the bottom level.

During the construction, we have had to close the main entry and instate temporary Access Services desks at different points in the library. However, after a few weeks of noise and rerouted hallways, the end is near. The old carpet has been removed.

Everything has been stained and varnished.

We thank the staff for maintaining service and minimal disruption during the project, and we also appreciate your patience! Check back here for “After” photos.

We have been covering the construction and posting updates on our Twitter and Instagram, so follow us for more photos and videos of the project!
