San Diego Summer Escapades

You don’t need to go far to have a grand vacation. Right here in our own City of San Diego, you’ll find great places to visit and enjoy this summer.

Here is a rundown of some popular places to visit:

San Diego Zoo – where you’ll enjoy activities, games, and exhibits of some exotic animals found only in San Diego Zoo. It’s vital to the existence of San Diego Zoo to protect its animals. Here’s a book that describes how endangered species are protected at the zoo:  Protecting Endangered Species at the San Diego Zoo.

Balboa Park is the city’s urban cultural park with open spaces, gardens, and walking paths. It has museums, theaters, and is right next to the San Diego Zoo! Be sure to see the Park’s celebration for its 100 years’ past to honor the completion of the Panama Canal.  Check this book out to read more about it: San Diego’s Balboa Park (Spreckles Organ. https://plus.google.com/+balboapark)

Sea World – is a grand attraction for young and adults alike. A visit is a chance to play with, feed, touch and learn about some of the ocean’s most fascinating creatures.  Read about it here:  Spectacular nature: corporate culture and the Sea World experience.

Carbrillo National Monument – offers a spectacular view of San Diego’s harbor and skyline. It’s located at the southern tip of the Point Loma Peninsula. The highest point in the park is the old Point Loma lighthouse which has been a city icon since 1855. Here are two books to peruse: The Cabrillo National Monument and Master Plan for Cabrillo National Monument, California: final draft

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park – commemorates the early days of the town of San Diego and includes many historic buildings from the period 1820 to 1870. The park was established in 1968. (Wikipedia.org) Here is a book about it: Old Town San Diego, 1821-1874: a brief history and descriptive guide to historic sites

Do not miss out on the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar Fairgrounds which is happening now through July 5th where you’ll enjoy shows, concerts, foods, and a variety of merchandise on sale.

Other places of interest would be: Seaport Village, La Jolla Shores, and LEGOLAND.

Summer goes fast so start planning ahead your vacation and visit once again one or two popular destinations in San Diego.
