Phase 2B is expected to be completed this Friday, July 1 and Phase 3 is expected to begin Tuesday, July 5. Access Services will be temporarily re-located to the Copley Library Reference Desk for Phase 3 and as such, we will have a limited number of laptops available for checkout.
Copley Library will be open Friday, July 1, from 8am to 5pm. However, we will be closed July 2 through July 4 for the holiday weekend. Our normal summer hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5 at 8am. If you’re looking to do some research over the holiday weekend, be sure to check out our online databases!
Stayed tuned for next week’s post with more information on Phase 3 and be sure to check out our Construction Guide that includes construction updates and frequently asked questions.
Important Announcement: All Copley Library restrooms and the Mother Hill Reading Room are currently inaccessible as of today (June 22), as the construction begins Phase 2B.
As the Copley Library HVAC renovations continue, the efforts require that most of the library may be closed off for the next couple of weeks. Construction crews have placed tarp and red panels to close off access to the hallway between the library’s main level in Copley and the Mother Hill Reading Room. In the meantime, the Access Services desk is still open, and several workstations are available for use nearby.

Thank you for your patience!
Phase 2 of the project to renovate Copley Library’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system (HVAC) began this week with the closing of our lower level. This limits our access to some print books in our collection and as such, you may notice a few books in our online catalog now have a location of “closed stacks” (see example below).
If you need a book with a designation of “closed stacks”, we recommend that you request the book through the San Diego Circuit. If the book you need is unavailable via Circuit, you may wish to request it via our Inter-Library Loan Service.
The main level of Copley Library continues to be impacted by the project and thus access to study space and desktop computers remains limited. Nevertheless, library services continue to be delivered so do not hesitate to visit us onsite for all your library needs or to see our progress live and in person.
To get the latest on our progress, as well as any important updates regarding how services and facilities are being affected from day-to-day, be sure to subscribe to Copley Library’s Construction Guide and follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to get weekly insights and images documenting our progress.
Important Announcements: Water Shut Off Scheduled – Copley Library’s water will be turned off Thursday, June 9, from 6:00 p.m. to Friday, June 10 at 6:00 a.m.
Construction Updates: Copley Library’s HVAC renovations continue as areas of the library are further tarped and offices are relocated for the beginning stages of Phase 1. Administration was the most recent department to be relocated as their area undergoes asbestos abatement.
The normal Administration Offices closed for construction.
Access Services remains in the same location and will continue to provide service unless otherwise announced. In the meantime, construction has ramped up on the main library floor, and exciting activity can be seen on any given day.

During the second week of Copley Library’s HVAC Renovation, there is continued progress on the main floor that has closed off most of the study areas, computer kiosks and the Reference Book collection.
The lower level of the library has also begun its part of the renovation project which has closed off the Copley side of the book stacks.
